Romantic park proposal divides internet as ‘furries’ photobomb couple: ‘I’d be fuming’

They were absolutely furry-ous.

A couple was left reeling after their dream marriage proposal was photobombed by a trio of people in animal costumes.

The TikTok clip, which boasts over 11 million views, shows the couple enjoying a picnic in a picturesque park, complete with a blanket adorned with candles like something out of a romance film.

The aspiring groom drops to one knee and places a ring on the finger of his blushing bride-to-be.

However, just as she accepts and the soon-to-be man and wife embrace, three goofy-looking critter cosplayers stroll past, taking the air out of their Hallmark moment.

“POV: You’re capturing your best friend’s engagement and NOW is the time the FURRIES decide to walk by,” read the caption.

They were referring to the subculture of people who have a fascination with anthropomorphic animals — fictitious creatures that walk, talk, and even look like people (read: Disney’s 1973 animated “Robin Hood”).

These unofficial mascots bring their pastime to life via drawings, writing, and donning extravagant “fursuits” that cost thousands of dollars.

Viewers were taken aback by the critter-mimicking wedding crashers with one writing, “I’d be fuming.”

“This is genuinely my worst nightmare,” said another, while a third quipped, “Omg I’d be so furryious.”

However, others saw the humor in it. “If I got photobombed by a bunch of furries during my engagement I’d laugh so hard and cherish it forever ngl,” declared one commenter.

Coincidentally, a member of the community has since identified the furries in question.

“THATS MY FRIENDS LOL!!” they wrote. “I WAS ALSO THERE BUT NOT IN THIS VID!! HAPPY ENGAGEMENT I WISH YALL THE BEST!!”

Another blamed the accidental cameo on the fact that they couldn’t see very well out of the giant animal heads.

“As you can see we have a huge blind spot smack in the middle,” they wrote alongside a POV photo taken from inside the getup. “That’s why so many have handlers to guide them through crowded conventions.”

Unfortunately, Furries have been accused of more than proposal photobombs.

The pastime is often viewed as a form of sexual fetish, even though only a small subset claim they partake for X-rated reasons.

Meanwhile, in 2022, members of the subculture faced blowback after rumors swirled that a Michigan school put a litter box in one of its bathrooms for kids who identify as cats.

This claim sparked concerns among parents with one deeming it part of a nationwide “agenda being pushed” within the education system.

While the rumor was subsequently debunked, furries nonetheless felt ostracized.

“It is a shame that the furry community still endures (some) negative media portrayals and public misperception as deviants because the truth of this remarkable and resilient community is far more interesting,” Dr. Sharon E. Roberts, associate professor at the University of Waterloo and a co-founder of the International Anthropomorphic Research Project, previously told The Post.
