There’s a new way to enjoy the pop, sizzle and crackle of a crispy, refreshing Diet Coke.

A strange new drink trend known as “marinating” has been bubbling up on TikTok, where a growing army of fans has been exchanging tips on ways to make their favorite soft drink even better, namely by giving your stash a lengthy, chilly timeout before consuming.

And while the concept may sound strange — a can of Coke is not a piece of meat to soak and steep with spices overnight — the fad has quickly taken over social media.

A TikToker who goes by the name of Kristen, posted a video recently where she shared her hack for making her beloved bubbly beverage even “crispier.”

“I have been marinating my Diet Coke in my fridge for 10 days,” she announced.

She then proceeded to pour the ice-cold, almost-two-week-old can into a cup filled with ice and she added a lime juice packet to the mix.

“I believe that the best Diet Cokes are the ones that come in a can and that have been marinating for over — and at least — three days,” Kristen explained.

She noted how five days is an even better time to let the soda sit in the fridge. “Over a week is phenomenal and two weeks-plus, we’re talking a really crispy Coke,” she said.

Another delectable idea, the princess of pop said, to make the soda taste the best, is to get pebble ice for the cup and to plop a slice of a frozen lime into the mix.

“Do you hear that fizz,” she asked fans as she held up her frosty seltzer-filled glass to the camera. “that is the sound of beauty. The sound of a perfect Diet Coke. Ahhh!”

The Coca-Cola company’s official account even chimed in on the recipe, commenting on Kristen’s clip: “Nothing like the first sip of a marinated Diet Coke.”

Other fans were wowed by the idea and dished that they would be trying out the trick.

Someone wrote: “I’m sure someone has explained the science already, but colder liquids carbonate more quickly and thoroughly. So, this is legit to an extent.”

“ELITEEEE!” one persons shrieked. “Do you ever pop a Diet Coke in a freezer to speed up the marination? I love a Diet Coke that’s been in the freezer for 30-ish minutes?”

“I am in awe of the 10-day marinade,” another flabbergasted user said. “You changed my life with this. I’ve frozen my lemons and got all the goods because of you.”

More social media users have caught up on the soda-licious trend, with an influencer named Taylor trying it with Diet Pepsi — turning her beverage into something more aimed at adult enjoyment.

In the Canadian TikToker’s clip, she claimed that she marinated her can for two days.

She then spewed the pop into a chilled cup with blocks of ice up to the rim, squeezing a splash of fresh lime juice into the chalice.

And now for “the best part,” she said, adding a shot of Malibu Rum to the beverage.

“Cheers! The perfect, crispy Diet [Pepsi]!” Taylor gushed.

Another tip? Adding salt to the Diet Coke alongside the lime also seemingly enhances the flavor, according to drink enthusiast Coffee Bae on TikTok.
