And the award goes to…the girls who do the least.

A new study conducted by social agency System, revealed the top ten lazy girl jobs of 2023 — a list topped off by social media managers (#2) and their even lazier cousins, community moderators, who reigned as #1.

The viral hashtag, #LazyGirlJob, has accumulated over 36.8 million views on TikTok, with people desiring a more laid-back career field that includes flexibility and work-life balance.

“With stress levels and burnout rates at an all-time high, it’s not hard to see why trends like ‘lazy girl jobs,’ ‘quiet quitting,’ and more are emerging post-pandemic as a response to the ‘hustle culture‘ which glorifies overworking,” said Esther Cohen, director of marketing at Workamajig, a marketing project-management software company in Oakhurst, NJ.

Survey results indicate the role of social media manager was searched 104,000 on TikTok and Reddit while being a community moderator was viewed 110,000 times.

Other roles such as ‘Virtual Assistant,’ ‘Freelance Writer,’ ‘Proofreader, Editor,’ ‘Graphic Designer,’ ‘Web Developer, ‘Customer Service’ and ‘Data Entry Clerk’ were also considered the most lazy jobs, based on popular TikTok and Reddit searches under #LazyGirlJobs.

Most companies seek a social media manager to operate “an organization’s online presence and cultivating improved customer engagement. These professionals need to work closely with other departments and teams, including the marketing, sales and public relations teams, according to Indeed.

“Social media roles can be a great fit for people who enjoy a dynamic and varied work environment. The roles also [tend to be] hybrid or remote working models, which offer an ideal work-life balance,” Keith Foggan, the founder of System, which conducted the study, told indy100.

Community Moderator, Social Media Manager, Virtual Assistant, Freelance Writer, Proofreader, Editor, Graphic Designer and Web Developer made the top ten list of lazy girl jobs.

Many people assume social media roles don’t require much effort compared to other career fields, Foggan disagrees.

“This isn’t an indicator of laziness, but a sign of efficiency and initiative. To succeed in this competitive industry, hard work is essential,” Foggan said.

Meanwhile, community moderators work to “moderate the discussions to ensure compliance with the rules, deal with problematic users, and help to keep your company informed of the overall trend of comments and conversations that community members are having,” reads the Zip Recruiter site.

Some working women don’t mind being called a “lazy job girl” or “snail girl.”

“I get paid a bomb salary to talk to no one, take breaks whenever I want and be an office baddie,” TikToker Dani said in a viral clip. “Get yourself an office job, sis.”

“There’s nothing lazy about expecting a job that pays you well, gives you good work-life balance and doesn’t overwork you,” tech recruiter Bonnie Dilber argued on her TikTok channel.
