Street Fighter 6’s Burnout is even scarier than we thought as it’s shown that characters suffer extra block stun in this state

You really want to avoid the Burnout state in Street Fighter 6 if you can help it. Overusing Drive Gauge mechanics, blocking attacks, getting “punish countered,” and getting counter hit all contribute towards the depletion of your Drive Gauge.

The penalties have been noted as being fairly harsh, but it’s apparently worse than we thought. As showcased by Mir (from VesperArcade’s YouTube channel), characters will actually suffer extra block stun while Burnout is in effect.

In the clip, we see Ken blocking one of Guile’s standing medium punch attacks. Guile then follows up with what we assume to be Guile’s crouching medium punch, but it would appear that Guile doesn’t have enough frame advantage and is interrupted by Ken’s crouching light kick.

Mir then showcases what happens again, but with Ken in the Burnout state. This time, however, Guile’s crouching medium punch is successfully able to act as a frame trapping tool after Ken blocks the standing medium punch.

This has led us to the conclusion that characters will suffer from extra block stun when blocking attacks. Frame traps that normally aren’t possible will be possible depending on whether or not the opposing character is in their Burnout state.

Evidently, escaping pressure while Burnout is in effect will be a very difficult task. Remember that while the gauge is attempting to refill itself, it will be impossible to access the Drive Reversal, the Drive Parry, the Drive Impact, and even EX invincible reversal attacks.
