It’s brutal out here.
Gen Z’s favorite singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has teamed up with Stanley to create the ultimate Zoomer status symbol — but it’s unlikely you’ll get your hands on one.
The Olivia Rodrigo 40oz Stanley Flowstate Quencher features a clear “SOUR grape”-colored lid and reusable straw, studded in “vampire-red and silver stars” and art that embodies the cover of her album “GUTS.”
The coveted collectible costs $55 and will likely be sported by the coolest person you know — but furious fans have already missed the opportunity to snag one online.
The cup was available to purchase via “EQL Launch,” which, according to Stanley, is a “commerce solution that delivers better launch experiences and gives fans more access to in-demand products.”
It claims to give customers a better chance at getting more in-demand items by eliminating bots and fraud — however, people on social media said the site crashed almost immediately after launch.
Through this launch system, select customers are chosen for the drop. Payment info is entered beforehand and those who are selected get a confirmation email for both their entry and the item.
Those lucky people selected for the Stanley tumbler expressed their good fortune on social media.
“Told myself i would never ever purchase a Stanley cause the subculture of Stanley consumerism on TikTok drives me crazy but i may have entered to get the olivia Rodrigo Stanley and I actually got it 😭,” one person shared on X, formerly Twitter. “Live long enough to see yourself become the villain, as they say.”
Those who didn’t get the chance to get your hands on the Olivia Rodrigo tumbler and are itching for one might want to get their DIY skills ready.
All you’ll need is a purple Stanley and some stickers that are reminiscent of Rodrigo’s “GUTS” aesthetic.
If the hype and demand for this limited-edition Stanley collaboration is anything like the excitement over a “regular” Stanley, there’s a good chance people will spend hundreds of dollars to snag one on resale sites.
Right now, there’s a listing on StockX for $90 — and over on eBay, they’re being resold for as much as $290.
Olivia Rodrigo fans aside, a regular Stanley tumbler is a phenomenon in itself, with desperate customers causing in-store chaos while frantically trying to secure the coveted canteen.
But Casey Lewis, a youth consumer trends analyst who writes the newsletter After School, told Business Insider that she thinks the hype is already dying down.
“They are absolutely on their way out. This is peak Stanley,” she proclaimed. “There’s no up from here!”
However, from the looks of this launch, the Stanley isn’t going anywhere.
