Crafty cook’s cheese grater hack proves you’ve been using it all ‘wrong’: ‘Could have saved my knuckles a long time ago’

She wasn’t cheesing after realizing she’d gone her whole life without this little-known kitchen hack.

Brenna Breedlove, a Texan TikTok content creator and mom-of-two, has gone viral online after revealing the cheese grating trick she wished she’d figured out sooner: placing the grater on its side.

“The s–t I learn on TikTok,” Breedlove wrote in the video, which scored nearly 24 million views and 1.6 million likes.

Commenters — of which there were more than 19,000 — lauded the hack as “easier” than using the grater upright, as some admitted they were “embarrassed” for not already knowing the finger-saving trick.

“I’m still cringing at myself for not knowing this sooner,” Breedlove wrote in the comments of the clip, which has been saved by over 103,000 users.

“This could have saved my knuckles a long time ago,” one viewer agreed.

“Some things are so simpleI feel my intelligence is being tested,” quipped another.

“Never thought of laying it down, looks easier this way,” wrote someone else.

“Well I’ve been doing it wrong for 40 years,” joked one person.

“Thank you TikTok University,” another user added, referring to the plethora of life hacks taught on the platform.

Another creator previously shared the same trick for all kinds of grate-able foods — even carrots — hailing the grater hack as a mess-free option for slicing and claiming it makes for easy clean-up.

Meanwhile, other influencers have shown unconventional uses for the metal box graters, such as de-stemming herbs like parsley, cilantro or basil by placing the stems through the smaller holes of the grater.

Other hacks include explainers on how to use the larger “blade” side of the grater, which is meant for slicing.
