Ever get the sinking feeling that Ronald McDonald is watching you? Well, you’d be app-solutely right.
The ballyhooed burger joint isn’t just keeping fast-foodies satisfied with its trendy milkshakes and iconic fires — it’s also keeping close tabs on each individual customer via data harvested through the McDonald’s app, so says the restaurant’s former executive chef.
“Why do think McDonald’s wants you to use the app for everything?,” posed Mike Haracz, an ex-manager of culinary innovation for Mickey D’s, in an eye-popping TikTok exposé with over 37,000 views.
The whistle-blower’s explosive reveal came in response to a commenter’s inquiry as to why McDonald’s knows “how much money I have when I eat there?.”
And Haracz, who’s virally unveiled the once-sacred secret recipe to the ever-beloved Big Mac sauce and has dissuaded would-be diners against patronizing the eatery at 10:30 a.m., eagerly spilled the beans.
“McDonald’s, [through] the app, absolutely can target you based on your buying patterns,” he insisted.
“Whatever consumer science data is used to lump different groups together in different locations,” Haracz continued, “they know how much money you have, they know what you buy, they know what you like.”
He went on to note that the bigwigs behind Golden Arches aren’t the only folks guilty of capitalizing collecting clientele intel.
“A lot of places do this with credit card numbers,” said Haracz.
“After you swipe your credit card, they kind of know what that card has ordered from them in the past,” he added, “and can use that information to specifically either target you or adjust their marketing, their ads to make sure that what they’re promoting in a specific region is tailored just to you.”
Foodaholics were dumbfounded by the bulletin.
“No wonder the deals from the app are so good.. data is king!!!,” said a stunned spectator.
“I’ve noticed if I open another restaurant’s app I will shortly thereafter get a notification from McDonald’s advertising something,” another noted.
“So cash only lol,” joked a wannabe off-grid wisecracker.
But others didn’t seem to mind being hawked by the burger house.
“Don’t care,” wrote an unfazed fan. “The app makes eating at Mickey D’s affordable.”
Haracz concluded his dishing with a parting word to the wise: “McDonald‘s knows so much more about you than you would think.”
