I’m still getting asked for ID at the age of 50 — it’s the best thing ever

A mom was over-the-moon to be asked for ID when she went to buy tobacco — despite being 50.

Mom-of-two Abbi Franklin had been struggling with her age after turning 50 in March.

But things changed when she popped into a Co-op convenience store near her home in Guilford, England last week.

UK mom Abbi Franklin, 50, was pleasantly surprised when she was asked to show ID before purchasing tobacco at a local convenience store. Abbi Franklin / SWNS

The cashier insisted Abbi show him ID before he would allow her to pay for the tobacco she wanted.

Abbi — whose daughters are aged 17 and 23 — had to leave the store to collect her handbag she’d left with her youngest.

She said: “It was great — my best day ever!

“I’ve been bouncing all week because of this.

Franklin had to leave the store to get her handbag because she assumed she wouldn’t be asked for an ID card. Abbi Franklin / SWNS

“I just kept saying ‘you’re joking.’

“And he kept going ‘no, I need to see ID.’

“It was lucky really — I don’t usually take my ID out with me.”

Franklin said she has been “bouncing all week” because of the incident. Abbi Franklin / SWNS

Abbi, who can’t work due to ill health, said people often say she looks young but usually older than 35.
