Why you’re suddenly seeing Josh wine memes constantly: ‘It’s Josh o’clock somewhere’

Josh wine is having a moment on the internet — because wine not?

Snarky memes about a wine brand simply named Josh have been going around on X, and people can’t get enough.

The winemaker itself isn’t complaining about its enamored “loyal fan base,” either.

“The name ‘Josh,’ which has been the source of quite a bit of the social media conversation, helps make the brand feel more welcoming in a category that can be overwhelming to new drinkers of wine,” Dan Kleinman, chief brand officer of Josh Cellars, told The Post.

It all started when one user discovered that there is indeed a wine brand named Josh that’s actually affordable.

“I’m not gonna keep telling y’all to grow up and leave that Stella & Barefoot alone,” the post, which has 20.5 million views as of Wednesday afternoon, said.

Josh Cellars Wine Memes Are Flowing
It all started when one user discovered that there is indeed an affordable wine brand named Josh.

One person replied: “For non-wine drinkers, this is like someone driving a Hyundai making fun of a Kia driver,” pointing out that, while the user might have a point when it comes to quality, all three wines are within a similar price range and under $20.

As can be seen on the bottle, the official name of the brand is Josh Cellars, but many tend to refer to it simply as Josh wine — and the chronically online are having a blast.

The memes didn’t stop with that one snarky comment poking fun at the original poster — users on X decided to have some fun with the brand name itself in a flood of posts.

“It’s Josh o’clock somewhere,” one person declared.

“Do you understand how embarrassing it is to explain the Josh meme to people,” someone quipped.

“Don’t Josh and drive,” a user wrote.

“I’m going to start calling all wine ‘Josh,’ like the way we say Kleenex to mean all tissues,” one person declared.

“I don’t know s–t about wine but I’m sure a wine named Josh isn’t top shelf. I grew up with like 6 dudes named Josh,” someone quipped.

“It honestly is pretty funny that they just sell bottles of wine that say Josh on them,” another pointed out.

“Your name is ‘Josh?’ Like the wine?” a user joked.

“Before I leave brush my teeth with a bottle of Josh,” one post said, referencing Kesha’s song “Tik Tok.”

“By the time you realize my worth I’m gonna be drinking Josh with someone else,” another person wrote.

Even the company is celebrating the effort being put in by social media users.

“It was hard not to notice the hilarious creativity over the past few days. The wittiness of these posts has captivated us, and we’re delighted to see our brand be part of the broader social media conversation,” Josh representative Kleinman told The Post.

“The virality of these Josh Cellars wine memes has shown us that sometimes jokes don’t have to be over complicated. Something as simple as naming your wine a human name – Josh – is universally humorous.”

But the wine brand isn’t named Josh Cellars for no reason — founder Joseph Carr created it in 2007 as a tribute to his father, Josh, according to the company’s website.

It’s too early to tell whether the memes have impacted sales of Josh wine, but Kleinman said that they are expecting to see a spike in volume.

Josh Cellars has seen a 79% uptick in Instagram followers compared to the same week the year prior, as well as a significant uptick in Google searches for the brand, he shared, adding that it’s been a great opportunity to engage with loyal customers in a new way and also welcome new customers to the Josh Cellars family.

“We were a bit surprised that Josh Cellars is just being discovered by some, but we’re always excited to have more people join the party,” Kleinman said.

“That’s the fun of social media – you never know what might be next or what people will hook onto, so our point of view is to keep letting the memes flow!”
