I’m a chef — here’s how to make a Michelin-level meal for under $10

There’s something fishy about this “budget-friendly” dish.

Content creator Danny Kim, 27, from Maryland, challenges chefs to create gourmet meals with no more than a $10 bill and films the results on TikTok.

In a viral clip from September, Kim taps chef Kevin Lee, a former Michelin cook, to see how far he can stretch the limited budget.

Lee and Kim bring viewers to a Los Angeles Korean market, where Lee buys a lemon (49 cents), chives (69 cents), a large cucumber ($2.49), perilla leaves (79 cents), and rainbow trout ($4.99) — ringing in at $9.45.

With change to spare, Lee makes his way home to the kitchen, where he starts his trout tartare by filleting the fish and brining it in salt, sugar and lemon for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

He blends sesame leaves with grape seed oil before moving on to a cucumber sauce.

He chops cucumber and lemon to make a cucumber vinaigrette.

In a frying pan, he adds black pepper, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, cucumber juice, sugar and white wine vinegar, throwing in a sprig of thyme and combining the mixture with the vinaigrette.

He creates a separate mixture of egg yolks, crab soy sauce and liquid koji. Then he slices the fish, adding some cucumbers, chives, olive oil and lemon juice.

He assembles the tartare in a bowl and tops it with the cucumber vinaigrette, the egg yolk mixture, and a bonus ingredient of smoked trout roe.

Finally, he coats some crispy nori paper with sesame oil and chops it for a garnish.

Lee and Kim fist-bumped after tasting the meal.

But some TikTokers slammed it as a cheat meal because Lee used ingredients beyond the ones he bought at the market for $10.

“Under $10 but then we spend $135 off camera to make the dish,” one criticized.

“The fish eggs would make it over $10 wouldn’t it?” another wondered.

“I’m sorry… there is no fish that sells for $5,” one skeptic claimed.

However, viewers slammed the men for creating a dish that appeared to use other ingredients beyond the ones purchased for $10.

Another estimated: “Added Ingredients -Grapeseed Oil ($5.37/24oz) -Fennel Seeds ($2/1.75oz) -Coriander Seeds ($7.56/12oz) -White Wine Vinegar ($2/12.7oz).”

“Usually it’s 10 with other condiments laying around the house. This one is definitely not just 10,” someone else declared, referencing Kim’s other TikToks.

“HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS,” another presumably added about the content creator.

The Post has contacted Kim and Lee for comment.
