Oura gets skinny: Biohacker-backed brand makes history with ‘world’s smallest smart ring’

Oura is expanding its leading smart ring lineup by shrinking its best-selling design.

The Finnish smart ring brand, popular with all kinds of wellness enthusiasts, biohackers and celebrities — including Bryan Johnson and Jennifer Aniston — debuted the new and improved Oura Ring 5 today.

Oura is among the latest to jump on the skinny trend, slimming down with a first-of-its-kind, ultra-thin design that the company claims is 40% smaller than the Oura Ring 4.

It’s meant to be worn like jewelry, while quietly tracking up to 50 health metrics with “research-grade accuracy.” And with a week-long battery life, you rarely ever have to take it off.

The new ring looks strikingly similar to a wedding band, but shouldn’t cost you as much at just $399 — the same price as the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic. It’s available for pre-order and ships out on June 4.

“Oura Ring 5 is the most significant leap in smart ring history,” said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura. “To make something 40 percent smaller without sacrificing an ounce of accuracy, we had to rethink every assumption — the sensors, the battery, the architecture, the geometry of the ring itself.”

Beyond the sleeker look and smoother curvature, the fifth iteration of the popular smart ring is also waterproof and packs newly upgraded tracking features. According to the brand, powerful software tools connect clinical history with real-time biometrics for a more comprehensive view of health.

Among the new features are an expansion of Symptom Radar, metrics for daytime and nighttime blood pressure and nighttime breathing, plus Health Records for members managing chronic conditions or seeking more proactive guidance.

Another key feature of the new, slimmed-down ring is GLP-1 insights. With this tool, users taking GLP-1s can view a single longitudinal record of their treatment, track body changes, log how they’re feeling and even record doses to stay on top of their medication journey.

“By reimagining Oura Ring 5 to be smaller, easier to wear and pairing it with our most advanced software yet, we’re making it possible for many more people to wear Oura every day — and to benefit from the personalized, predictive health insights that come with it,” Oura CEO Tom Hale shared in a statement.
